Professional liability insurance is often viewed as something we must have and hope we will never need it. Yet most of us who purchase liability insurance know little about it or the level of coverage needed. This can become an expensive mistake.
Professional liability insurance is a form of “Malpractice Insurance” often referred to as an Errors & Omissions or “E&O” policy. These policies protect instructors against claims of negligence. An instructor can be held liable if their students are injured due to negligence on the part of the instructor to provide reasonable monitoring to protect their students.
Defending yourself against a claim, even if the claim is frivolous, can require expensive legal fees. Liability insurance will generally cover legal fees, expenses and any awarded or agreed upon settlement as defined in your policy. When selecting a Liability policy make sure you understand your coverage in the event that a claim is filed against you.
Tai Chi is generally covered under the Yoga category on most Liability Insurance policies.
The providers listed are a good place to start, but conduct your own search and choose the best fit for you. USTCC.ORG does not endorse the companies listed. Ask around, reach out to your Tai Chi friends and see who they get their insurance from. There is nothing better than a personal recommendation.
We are currently working with a few providers to determine if we can get a group rate. We’ll keep you posted.
